Pakistani Delegation Strengthens Partnership with BGI Genomics in Precision Medicine

On December 13th, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab Province, Pakistan, led a delegation from the Punjab provincial government to visit BGI Genomics and signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in areas such as construction of medical testing platform and prevention and control of diseases. The executive team from both BGI Group and BGI Genomics jointly received the visit.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Wang Jian, Chairman and Co-founder of BGI Group, Yin Ye, CEO and Executive Director of BGI Group, Zhao Lijian, CEO of BGI Genomics, Li Ning, Deputy General Manager of BGI Genomics, Xiong Tao, Vice President of International Development at BGI Group, Jeremy Cao, Southeast Asia Regional General Manager of BGI Genomics, Mao Zhixia, South Asia Regional General Manager of BGI Genomics, among others.

During the visit, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration in genomics and precision medicine, with a particular focus on the management, planning, and development of medical infrastructure and diagnostic initiatives.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif acknowledged and commended BGI Genomics for its contributions to public health initiatives both domestically and internationally, which have significantly benefited local communities. She expressed appreciation for BGI Genomics' involvement in strengthening Pakistan's public health system and emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration to address the province's growing medical needs.

Wang Jian affirmed BGI Genomics’ commitment to supporting Pakistan in the development of a more precise, accessible, and comprehensive public health system. He highlighted the company's dedication to fostering talent exchange, providing training in relevant fields, and leveraging genetic technology to benefit the people of Pakistan.

The MoU focused on laboratory construction, disease screening and prevention, and talent training, aiming to enhance the public health standards of Punjab Province.

Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Senior Minister of the Government of Punjab (GoPb) and Mao Zhixia, the South Asia General Manager of BGI Genomics, signed the MoU, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and Chairman Wang Jian witnessed the signing ceremony.

GoPb and BGI Genomics have signed the MoU.

This signing will provide strong support for precision medicine services in Pakistan and elevate cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of public health to new heights. Looking ahead, BGI Genomics will continue to focus on localized innovation and the promotion of genetic technology applications. This commitment aligns with the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the "Belt and Road" initiative, contributing to the development of a global community of health for all.
